Turtles may not be a common house pet, but it is possible and there are people who love them being their pet. They might be slow and may not be as playful as the rest of the pest, but they can be as charming and adorable.

The rule of thumb in choosing a pet is to assess yourself if you really like caring for one. You cannot just have a pet turtle because your friend has one, you have to love and be interested in turtles to get one. Another thing that you have to remember is the fact that there are different types of turtles. Knowing which one you would like to have would help you take care of it better.

Below are some helpful tips on how you can take care of your pet turtle.

Research. Scout as many pet shops as you can and see if you have a specific turtle that you would like t o have. Do not pick out one yet, at least not for the moment. Take your time to ask the people from the pet store to know more about your turtle. These questions could include one of the following: What type of turtle is it? What type of habitat fits the turtle? What type of food does it eat? Does it bite? Can you start with caring for just one, or does it have to have a pair?

The questions again can vary and can go as many as you can to make sure you get as many information about your future pet.

Keep them clean. Given that you already know what type of house you would build your pet turtles, you should ensure that you change waters, clean the aquarium, change the soil, or remove uneaten food on the proper time. All of this information can be provided by the pet shop attendant.

Feed them right. Some turtles may like to eat pepperoni or three cheese pizza, but some turtles may just want foods that are fresh and good for them. Turtles can eat fresh fruit or vegetables or anything else. Again this information could be given by the pet attendant. Just see to it that you have to remove uneaten portions of food before you place a brand you one. After all, you do not want your turtles eating the spoiled ones just to ensure that they are all healthy. Bond with your turtle.

Unfortunately, you can walk or play cuddle with your pet turtle. They bite, so make sure that you keep your hands away from their mouth when feeding or when holding them. When you buy a turtle, you do not need to hold them immediately, if you do, you will just be plainly holding the shell. They have some sort of trust issues and you need to give them some time to trust you before you could hold them, say for about 3 weeks. Then start tapping the back and then progress from that. Talk to your pet, they may not talk English or answer you back, but it will give them the feeling to trust you.
